He had a huge heart, loved God and his family (both 2 and 4 legged), never missed an opportunity to go junking and constantly had dirt under his nails.

Bob passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 64. No services are planned. Ankeny Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the cremation.

Bob was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa in 1953 to Ben and Anna Groenendyk. He attended Oskaloosa High School and Central College. He later worked for Central College and Grinnell College.

He is survived by his wife Sandy of 35 years, his sister Kathy (Stan) Johnson, his niece Katie (Dan) Spilo, his nephew Nathan (Becca) Groenendyk, his niece Jessica (Brenda) Anderson and his nieces Sara and Amber Johnson. He also loved being a great uncle to Benjamin, Ryan, Gwendolyn and Gracie Mae.
Preceding in in death were his parents Ben and Anna and his brother Keith.

The family wishes to express their heart filled gratitude to the staff at Iowa Methodist Hospital and their Pallitive Care Group. The family is especially grateful to the exceptional care and compassion give toward Bob and Sandy while in Yonkers 8, North 6 and the ICU unit(s).
